Book Arts - Evelyn Press

Be
Be mixes the perfect and drum leaf bindings in an edition for my Independent Book Arts Study.  An 18 page letterpress book, this edition of 25 books took 90 hours in 7 days to complete!! I became sick towards the end of the week, and ran into a lot of issues with spelling, but I couldn't be more proud of these little books. With text by Dan O'Brien, this book about perspective is my first collaborative book!!

Construct
My very first book edition... Drum leaf binding, woodblock images, and letterpress.
Construct deals with an abstract progression of form- how your mind can fully explore concepts, ideas, and theories by first learning how they're set up, understanding the importance or relevance, and then pick them apart by questioning their structure.

Water
My very first book!! A simple kettle stitch binding, this book deals with water's multiple personalities.  At one point, it can be a bubbling spring, but you go a little deeper and find it's really full of currents and rapids.  Beneath everything, in the depths of the ocean, its as still, calm, and black as the night.
I used my prints, corduroy, thread, and lace for this small star bound book.

Changing Positions
Body language communicates more about our true emotions than words might.  Every couple has their own sleeping patterns, but this unique book is about how those positions can be reflective of the strength, weakness, passion or distance in a relationship. Like a deck of cards, the positions can be shuffled and rearranged based on what the couple is going through.

Remedy
This book is about getting back to the basics with your health through the use of natural cures.
Pin-prick illustration inside the front cover, and a small pocket holding the remedies in a simple pamphlet binding.

Heights
This small book is about my experience at the 2010 Hudson Hot Air Affair in Hudson, WI (a winter season hot air balloon rally on the border of Wisconsin and Minnesota).  This tri-fold book holds a small kettle stitched book with pictures from the weekend in and around the balloons. The pages are black and white, referencing any spectators photography, but the color comes from the experience of flying- something that will remain in your memory as vivid as the flight itself.

Schwontkowski
This pamphlet bound book has four pages that each fold out, exposing different family members of mine.  Next to their drawing lies a flaw and a reason why I appreciate said flaw.  No family is perfect, and each has their quirks, but its those imperfections that make the family dynamic so interesting.
